Retrofinds remembers Chipmunk Oxo Crisps


I wish they would bring chipmunk Oxo flavour crisps back. They tasted superb. Nice and salty. I remember my Mum buying these crisps and I would end up eating most of them. Loads of flavour and not matched since. They were taken over by Golden Wonder crisps. Maybe they could bring them back like Walkers did with the old style Monster Munch.

    I used to love Chipmunk crisps and save all the packets. I could only ever get them on holiday in Lancing Sussex. Unfortunately my mum made me throw all the packets out as they went all grotty. This was in the 1960's. Have you got a close up picture of a bag that you could email me. Don't worry if you can't as I can see quite a bit from the small pic. I am just writing a story which mentions the crisps and I might do an illustration of a bag or two. Thanks.

      Hi, I remember Oxo flavoured crisps back in the fifties I think,
      My mum used to buy them for us but they came in a box like cereals, I don't know the brand name though.

    yes i do agree please please bring back the oxo and bovril flavered crisps they were my all time favourate when i was a kid and you cant get anything that comes close to them

    I used to be a sales Rep: in the 60's for Chipmunk who were part of the Oxo Company. We did a blitz of South Wales at the time of the Abervan Disaster, I was staying in Swansea. We had a wide variety of crisps besides the Oxo flavour. I sold 10 cases to a Pub in Mumbles, only because I hit the ballseye of the dart board with one of the darts we were giving away as a promotion. Great time.

      Chipmunk OXO crisps were on sale at our school tuck shop in Bristol in the 1960s but disappeared (or were never available) in the south east by the 70s. However we did get Hedgehog flavour in the mid 80s in Kent and more recently, in South America, black pepper flavour turned up until earlier this year when it too disappeared. It makes you wonder why these tasty snacks disappear when people obviously love them, judging by the comments on the net. BRING BACK CHIPMUNKS!

    You have no idea how happy I am to find I'm not the only one who is pining for Chipmunk Oxo flavour crisps! I was born in '62 and we had them at infant school - I have never forgotten the taste and I'm drooling as I'm writing this!
    I'm also chuffed that someone else agrees that Roast Ox Real Crisps are the nearest match. My local pub sells Real Crisps but not that flavour. . . YET!!!!!

    I just think all us OXO flavour crisp addicts are going to be disappointed. If this site has only raised a handful of pleas in over 3 years to bring them back, the manufacturers aren't going to bother. Perhaps the only way, is when Walkers next invite the public to suggest a new flavour, we all petition for OXO, Yes, you'd guessed, I love them too!!

    Yeah,how I remember Chipmunk crisps from the late 60s.When I used to live in Gosport,Hampshire, I was in a swimming club in Southampton and after every session in the pool I purchased a packet of Chipmunk oxo crisps from the pool shop,(oooh I can taste them now),the flavour was REALLY strong,HONESTLY,the BEST crisps I have ever had.

    Mmm, OXO flavour, can still taste them. My junior school tuck shop in Watford used to sell them back in the 60's but coming from a large family pocket money tight so these were not an everyday purchase. And potato puffs, they were on sale too.
    British Home Stores in the 70's and 80's sold food and did giant bags of crisps that included oxo/roast ox, and they used to sell Pork and Apple pasties, they were lush.

      Yes Uggss I agree BHS sold the nearest substitute to Chipmunk crisps and once they stopped selling Oxo crisps in the 80’s I have searched elusively for that taste to no avail.

    There was nothing like a bag of Chipmunk Oxo Crisps from the vending machine from the cafe at the Leisure Centre after going swimming. They were just so full of flavour and so good!!
